Kindergarten FAQs

What is the kindergarten curriculum?
The curriculum matches the Ohio Common Core standards. The Common Core standards have higher expectation for text comprehension for our youngest learners. Additionally, the Common Core has a greater emphasis on their reading and writing skills across all content areas.

Specifically, there is a significant amount of daily instruction dedicated to literacy skill development focusing on phonics instruction, guided and shared reading as well as guided and shared writing. Kindergarten students will have a specific amount of time daily dedicated to math instruction as well. The subjects of science and social studies will be taught within the language arts/literacy instruction. In addition, students receive music and physical education instruction along with one quarter of art instruction by a certified art teacher.
