Patton Named Next Garfield MS Principal
The Lakewood City Schools Board of Education approved current Harding Middle School Assistant Principal April Patton to be the next principal of Garfield Middle School at a special meeting on May 23. Patton will replace Dr. Robin Pettiegrew, who is leaving the District.
Patton began her career with Lakewood City Schools in 2006 as a math teacher at Horace Mann and Harding middle schools then moved on to Garfield when Horace Mann closed to undergo renovation into an elementary school in 2007. In 2017, she became the District's lead mentor teacher, working with Human Resources and the District's resident educator teachers (teachers new to the profession). She was named assistant principal at Harding in 2018.
Patton is eager to return to the Garfield community. "I am honored to be selected as the next principal of Garfield Middle School and I am especially thankful for the opportunity to continue to advance in my leadership skills in Lakewood," Patton said. "It's been eight years since I’ve been a part of the Garfield team - I am thrilled to be going back to work with the amazing staff and students in the building."
Patton earned both her bachelor's of science in education and master's of education in educational administration from Ashland College.
