Lawsuit Settlement Update
At its Aug. 4 special meeting, the Lakewood City Schools Board of Education voted to approve a settlement related to a legal matter concerning the District's previously approved plan to repurpose Lincoln Elementary School as an Early Learning Center and redraw elementary school attendance boundaries.
The Board's decision to settle this matter reflects its commitment to acting in the best interests of the District and being responsible stewards of taxpayer resources. Resolving this litigation allows the District to avoid the significant costs, uncertainty, and time associated with continued legal proceedings, enabling the District to remain focused on serving our students, staff, and community.
As part of the settlement, the Board of Education does not admit to any wrongdoing. The settlement provides an opportunity for the Board to revisit the proposed repurposing of Lincoln Elementary School and the associated elementary attendance boundary recommendations through additional public discussion before taking further action. To ensure the community has the opportunity to hear the information being presented and observe the Board's discussions, the following meetings are scheduled:

Monday, Aug.10 – Regular Board of Education Meeting: District administration will present updated information regarding District facilities, building capacity, enrollment trends, and future planning considerations.

Monday, Aug. 24 – Regular Board of Education Meeting: District administration will present an updated Early Learning Center proposal and related information for the Board's consideration.

Tuesday, Sept. 8 – Special Board of Education Meeting: The Superintendent will present final recommendations, after which the Board will discuss and vote on the proposed recommendations.
All Board meetings will be livestreamed and available for the community to view.
Following the Board's action on Sept. 8, and pending the outcome of that vote, the District will provide an updated timeline and communicate the next steps to our families, staff, and community.
