District's 4-Star Report Card Reviewed
At the Lakewood Board of Education meeting Monday, Oct. 7, Director of Teaching and Learning Steven Ast shared the District’s results on the most recent Ohio Report Card, which was released in late September and graded districts on a five-star scale. Lakewood City Schools received an overall rating of four stars.
Ast was proud to report that the District earned five stars in the Gap Closing category. The Gap Closing component measures how well school districts are meeting performance expectations for their most vulnerable students in English language arts, math and graduation. This is the second straight year the district earned the top rating in this category. The District earned four stars in the Achievement category, which indicates that our students are exceeding the state standards in this area. The District earned three stars in Progress and Early Literacy, indicating that we are meeting the state standard set for these categories. The District improved to thee stars in the Graduation Rate component, indicating we are meeting state standards.
While the state Report Card data helps give us a clearer picture of where our students stand in relation to meeting state standards, the data is just one piece of a larger picture that we are striving to achieve at Lakewood City Schools. We believe that our Vision of a Lakewood Ranger is the best guidepost for providing students what they need to develop into successful and engaged citizens.
