District Wins $20K+ in Student Health Grants

Lakewood City Schools has been awarded several key grants to further strengthen mental health support and wellness initiatives for our students. These funds will allow us to expand peer-to-peer training, empower our young women, and provide more coordinated care across the District. Click Read More below to learn more about the grants.

We have been awarded $20,200 from the Healthy Lakewood Foundation (HLF) for the upcoming year to bolster two vital programs:

  • Coordinated Care ($7,500): These funds will streamline our support systems, ensuring that students and families are connected to the right resources at the right time.

  • ROX Groups ($12,700): We are expanding ROX (Ruling Our eXperiences), an evidence-based program designed to help girls navigate the challenges of adolescence, build confidence, and develop healthy relationships.

The District also receive $2,500 grant money from What Works in School Surveillance (WWIS) and Case Western Reserve through the School Health Advisory Collaborative. These grants will go toward:

  • Teen Mental Health First Aid ($1,000): This grant will be used to train Lakewood High School students in teen mental health first aid. This program empowers students to recognize signs of mental health challenges in their peers and teaches them how to safely connect friends with a trusted adult.

  • Data Use Ambassador w/ Youth Leadership Bonus ($1,500): This funding supports student-led data analysis, allowing our youth leaders to use school wellness data to drive positive changes in our buildings.

A huge thank you to our coordinator of student wellness, Merritt Waters, and our social worker, Tina Karp, for their help in secure the grants and for always looking for ways to improve student wellness.
