District Joins New Athletic Conference

Today marks a significant milestone in Lakewood and Northeast Ohio high school athletics as the Cleveland West Conference is officially established. The Cleveland West Conference will be comprised of seven school districts, including eight high schools and 10 middle schools in the Greater Cleveland area. Dedicated to promoting sportsmanship, competition, and community, the conference offers a platform for student-athletes to excel both on and off the field.

The founding members of the Cleveland West Conference include:
Bay Village City Schools
Buckeye Local School District
Lakewood City School District
North Olmsted City Schools
Parma City School District
Rocky River City School District
Westlake City School District

Each of these school districts brings a rich tradition of athletic excellence and academic achievement to the conference. The creation of the Cleveland West Conference comes at a pivotal time, providing student-athletes with enhanced opportunities for growth and competition within their local communities.

"Lakewood is excited to be part of the inception of the Cleveland West Conference," said Lakewood Athletic Director Rob Slone. "The schools that comprise the new league share the philosophy that athletics are tools that students use to learn essential life skills such as self-discipline, teamwork and a strong work ethic.  They also believe that our athletic programs help promote physical and mental wellness along with a positive self image for all of our student-athletes."

The Cleveland West Conference is set to commence its inaugural season in the fall of 2024, with an array of thrilling matchups and rivalries anticipated throughout the school year. The conference leadership is committed to upholding the highest standards of sportsmanship and fair play, ensuring a positive and enriching experience for all participants.
