District Granted $20K For STEM Program
The District is grateful to recently have been awarded $20,000 in grant money for its elementary STEM program! The money comes via two grants - one from the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation ($15,000) and one from the Ohio STEM Learning Network Classroom Classroom Grant Program ($5,000), which is a public-private partnership between the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce and Battelle.
Both the grant projects were targeted for our youngest learners. The Jennings Foundation grant will allow the District to buy age appropriate tools for students in grades K-2 to explore and learn about coding and robotics. Each elementary building will receive six programmable Blue Bot robots and their supplemental components.
The STEM Learning Network grant will go toward buying hands-on magnet kits for our kindergarteners and first-graders to explore the principles of magnetism, force, and motion. These kits will help foster early STEM engagement and critical thinking through interactive learning experiences.
“Access to high-quality STEM education opens doors to new opportunities for families and supports job creation in local communities,” said Kelly Gaier Evans, Director of the Ohio STEM Learning Network. “This grant program connects local STEM champions to an extensive network of STEM schools, resources, and other educators.”
A big thanks to our elementary STEM educator team of Megan Coe, Julie Ferrone, Jackie Gallik and Molly Spurlock for their hard work in putting the grant applications together and for their continued commitment and passion for teaching our young students about the amazing possibilities in the world of STEM.
