Clark Named Next Director of Teaching & Learning

The Lakewood Board of Education has approved the appointment of Kristin Clark, Ed.D, the District’s current elementary teaching and learning coordinator, as the next director of the Lakewood City Schools Teaching and Learning Department. She will replace Steven Ast, who will be assuming the role of assistant superintendent in August.

Clark, who joined Lakewood City Schools in 2022, steps into this Cabinet-level leadership role with a stellar track record of instructional excellence and system-wide curriculum management. During her tenure as elementary coordinator, she has successfully designed and managed a framework for curriculum adoption cycles, data reviews, and academic intervention structures. Notably, Clark championed the District's recent strategic shifts toward the Science of Reading, guiding staff through the comprehensive implementation and intensive professional development required for the transition.

Clark said she is honored to be chosen for her new position: “My experience as the elementary coordinator has allowed me to develop significant relationships and build on the amazing work happening in our district. This role is an extension of the important aspects of teaching and learning: building connections, fostering growth, and championing meaningful learning experiences for each student in Lakewood. I look forward to deepening our collaboration to build on our district’s successes and write the next chapter of academic excellence together.”

Prior to coming to Lakewood, Clark was an instructional coach for Shaker Heights Schools.  She spent her early career teaching math at Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools and Olentangy Local School District.

Clark earned her doctorate degree in Interprofessional Leadership with a focus on curriculum and instruction from Kent State University. She received her master’s in Educational Policy and Leadership from The Ohio State University and her bachelor’s in Education from Ohio University.
