Board Approves Supt.'s Elementary Plan

The Lakewood City Schools Board of Education voted to approve Superintendent Maggie Niedzwiecki’s recommendation regarding the District’s Elementary Transition Plan during its Sept. 8 Special Board meeting. Under the plan, Lincoln Elementary will transition to become the Lincoln Early Learning Center for preschoolers in the 2027-2028 school year. New attendance boundaries for the elementary schools will also take effect in the 2027-2028 school year and will be announced at the Sept. 28 Board meeting.

This decision follows more than two years of evaluation, community meetings, and careful review of enrollment, building capacity, walkability, and safety data. It also follows a period this summer when, as part of a legal settlement, the Board committed to revisiting the plan through additional public discussion before taking further action. That process is now complete, and the Board has moved forward with approval.

With the new Lincoln Early Learning Center, the District will be able to expand preschool, before- and after-school care, and summer programming for the community.
