Dear Parents,

We've had a great start to our year! This time period from now until spring break is a huge learning period for your child.  They know the rules and routines in second grade, and I expect a lot from them academically, socially, and behaviorally. I will not give them many reminders before they have to move their clip.  So, if your child moves his/her clip, please talk about his/her choice. They are an incredibly kind group of children.

Please remind your child to return his/her library book every Thursday. We have never had 100% return. They should be reading 15 minutes every night, and writing it in their reading log; Raz-Kids/Plastic bags/personal choice/LRC book.

Math will continue with unbundling and regrouping (triple digit addition and subtraction). I also call it BBB (bottom number bigger borrow). This is a difficult concept for the students. The place value chart shows their thinking. It is a lifelong skill and we will revisit it all year. Please help and check your child's homework nightly. The children are fantastic with their math homework!

Social Studies is biography powerpoint presentations which we will begin soon. Science is Forces/Motion which will eventually correlate with writing lab reports. Reading is fiction and writing our opinions about our favorite parts of a book. We will have a lot of fun with all of these new concepts!!

Fundations is Unit 8, the r-controlled syllable which is due on January 17th.

Any questions or concerns, please write a note in your child's planner or send me an email.

They are the kindest group of children. I feel so lucky to be their teacher!

Stay Warm!

Sincerely,

Mary Pat Wise
