Dear Parents,

It continues to be very busy in school! The students' constantly demonstrate improvement socially and academically. They are reading a lot in school at their level. We are working on different ways to remember our reading.  Module four in Math is addition and subtraction within 200 and word problems to 100.  Please help your child complete his/her homework nightly and check it.  Please use the daily Problem Set as a reference. We will begin double digit subtraction, if the bottom number is bigger, please borrow a group of ten from the ten's place. Cross out both numbers, and put the correct number above it, then subtract.  This Math program is challenging and nightly practice is very helpful for the students to develop their skills.  The students really enjoy writer's workshop. We are completing our nonfiction books, and they are having fun! We are on Unit 7 in Fundations. The packets are due this Friday, December 14th.  We just completed a map skill unit in Social Studies. They are also working on their Biography power points. The next two weeks will include a weather unit in Science. We have never had 100% return on our library books. Please try to have your child return his/her books by Thursday every week.    Encourage your child to read daily for 15-30 minutes over winter break. Continue to have your child retell the story to you. They are all demostrating progress! Encourage words from the text, characters names, setting, beginning, middle, end, problem, solution. If it is nonfiction, include details and facts from the text. The students did an excellent job choosing a new seat for themselves, ask your child about it. We have many ornaments left over for $1.00 if your child would like to buy one from the Snowflake shoppe. The students had a great time making them and learning about producers, consumers, pricing, profit, money exchange etc. Thank you to the parents who helped out. Our field trip yesterday was a fun great learning experience! Thank you to our parent chaperones! The children received many compliments on their behavior:)

Have a wonderful holiday and vacation!  I will see everyone on Monday, January 7th, 2019.

Sincerely,

Mary Pat Wise
