This quarter in reading students will read more sight words, and read grade-level texts with purpose and understanding. Students are expected to read grade level texts orally with accuracy, appropriate rate and expression. They will describe how words and phrases supply rhythm and meaning in songs, stories and poems. Students will describe the overall structure of stories and determine meaning of words and phrases relevant to grade level topics. We will continue to work on taking a lot of evidence from the text to answer questions. They will ask who, what, when, why, where and how questions about the text. The students must know the answer to their question. They will also tell me the focus of certain paragraphs of read passages. We will continue to focus on Non-Fiction passages and books. Students will use various text features, including subheadings and electronic menus and icons to locate key facts and information.
