August Newsletter

                                                                            AUGUST NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the wonderful world of second grade! I am very excited to be your child's teacher! We are off to a wonderful start in room 213. They are a very kind, hard working group of children! I will communicate often with you through my web site and a printed version of my newsletters. Our classroom is chilly! Your child is welcome to leave a sweater or sweatshirt in his/her cubby.

Your child may bring a snack to school daily. Please make it simple, healthy, non-messy, and easy to eat. Our Library day will be every Thursday. One book will go home and one will stay at school. The students will start to bring home planners next week. It will have their nightly homework, behavior sticker chart, and reading log in it. When your child stays on "Ready to Lead", he/she earns a sticker for the day. Pease talk to your child daily about his/her choices. The students are on Zearn (Math) which correlates with the Common Core.

Your child should read every night for fifteen minutes and write it in their reading log inside of their plastic bags. They can read other books after the 15 minutes from their bags. They can practice addition/subtraction facts to 18 every night too. My web site has many Math learning games too!

We will celebrate the childrens' birthdays by making a birthday book for each child.  You are welcome to send in a snack your child can easily pass out.  Please include napkins, we have 20 students. I will send a reminder to you.  Please don't send birthday invitations to school.  If your child has a food allergy, please send me something that I can keep in my desk for him/her for birthday celebrations. If your child has a summer birthday, we'll celebrate them at the end of the year before summer.

The students have Music on Mon/Wed, and Gym on Tues./Thurs. It alternates on Friday, this week is Music.  Fundation packets will also come home for all 17 units. They have one or two weeks to complete it. It is incredibly helpful for their Reading, Writing, and Spelling skills

Sincerely,

Mary Pat Wise
