Dear Lakewood Families:

Having passed the halfway mark in the school year, I want to reflect on how much we have accomplished already! The year passes by so quickly - we are already scheduling high school classes for 23-24 - that if we don’t document it, the accomplishments can be quickly forgotten. Some of the more noteworthy items include:

  • Five LHS seniors named National Merit Scholars, including three Semifinalists

  • 10 LHS orchestra students earned spots in the regional honors orchestra and one earned a spot in the state honors orchestra

  • Significant grant money secured to bolster our student mental health support and STEM programming

  • Five stars earned by the District in the Gap Closing category on the state report card

  • Continued recognition for our high school students at state, regional and local levels for their artwork, including 47 awards in the prestigious Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

  • A full slate of K-12 holiday/winter concerts

  • 12th place finish for junior Luka Bork finished in the state cross country championship meet and earned All-Ohio status.

This is just a small sample of the great work that is being done by our students and staff every day around the District. Apart from specific accomplishments, broad work continues on many fronts districtwide including efforts around diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging as well as environmental initiatives - just last month a new pilot composting program began at the high school!

Lakewood City Schools is committed to being an outstanding place to work and learn. Together, we will ensure we keep our Vision of the Lakewood Graduate our primary focus!

Respectfully,

Maggie Niedzwiecki
