Congratulations to the members of the 19th and final graduating class of Lakewood City Academy! 13 graduates received their diplomas in a commencement ceremony that was part of the June 3 Board of Education meeting at Emerson Elementary School.
The teachers and staff of LCA congratulated the seniors and their families for persevering and accomplishing an important milestone that will launch them into their next phase of life.
Each year, the LCA staff comes up with a theme for the ceremony that is signified by a gift they metaphorically give to the students. This year's theme was "Choosing" and the gift a gumball machine. LCA Coordinator Terri Bornino-Elwell told her graduates that like a gumball machine that has many choices, they should choose to "make the world a better place" and to "choose the roads to endless possibilities."
The rest of the LCA staff each took a moment to share an inspirational quote that offered guidance on how to proceed with the next chapter of their life.
The graduates received their diplomas from Board President Linda Beebe and were congratulated by a reception line of Board of Education members, Superintendent Mike Barnes, Treasurer Kent Zeman, and LCA Board of Trustees members.
LCA was established by the District in 2005 to offer 6th-12th graders an alternative education path to graduation. This is the last year that LCA will exist as the District has chosen to fold the alternative education program into the District fold and moving forward the program will be known as the Franklin School of Opportunity, housed at the former Franklin Elementary building.
Congratulations to all the June 2019 LCA graduates!
