Back to School Dates

Welcome back

I hope all our students and families have enjoyed a relaxing summer.  I am glad to rejoin the Garfield staff and look forward to the year ahead. As we begin the first full week of August, the school office is now open in full preparation for the 2018-2019 school year.  With that, we have several important dates coming this month I want to make sure you have on your calendars.

On August 14th, we welcome students new to Garfield Middle School for new student orientation.  While most new students will be our incoming 6th grade students, anyone new to the school will find this information session helpful.  We will be providing the information during two sessions on August 14th.  The first session begins at noon in the cafeteria and the second session begins at 6pm in the cafeteria.  Please allow an hour and a half for orientation.  At this time, new students will receive their schedules as well as many other important materials and will hear from myself and our Assistant Princial, Ouimet Smith, about procedures at the school and how their typical school day will unfold. On August 15th, schedules and additional information for returning students and any incoming student not joining us for orientation will be mailed out.

School begins on Tuesday, August 21st at 8:15am. Parents choosing to drop their child off at school should pull up to of the front of the building. Our parking lot is a one-direction flow to reduce the potential for accidents.  The bell to permit students to enter the academic wing rings at 8:05am giving students 10 minutes to place their belongings in their lockers and be ready to learn by the start of the school day at 8:15am.

Open House for all grades will take place on Wednesday, August 29th beginning at 6pm. If you need a copy of your child's schedule on that evening, they will be available in the main lobby beginning at 5:30pm.  Picture Day will be held on August 31st.

I look forward to seeing our students return on August 21st and hope everyone enjoys the final weeks of summer vacation.

Thank you,

Robin Beavers, Principal
