Lincoln Student Wins "Why I Love Lakewood" Essay Contest

ZenoviaCongratulations to Lincoln Elementary fourth grader Zenovia Parkanzky on winning the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce's annual “Why I Love Lakewood” essay contest. The contest is open each year to fourth grade students living in Lakewood. More than 170 essays were entered in the contest. Zenovia's prize includes $100 cash, a ride in the Light Up Lakewood Parade on Dec. 7. She will also help “flip the switch” to turn on the downtown holiday lights during Light Up Lakewood. PTA Hosting "Screenagers" Documentary Viewing

The Lakewood Council of PTAs is hosting a screening of filmmaker Delaney Ruston' documentary, "Screenagers" on Monday, November 11 at 7 pm in the Civic Auditorium. "Screenagers" addresses the most pervasive parenting issue of our time head on— depicting teen struggles over social media, video games and internet addiction. The film empowers kids to best navigate the digital world and provides practical resources to help them do it. This film is recommended for students age 10 and over. It lasts 60 minutes and there will be a Q&A afterward.

Lincoln 5th Grader Named Junior Fire Chief

CadenCongratulations to Lincoln 5th grader Caden Sandoval on earning the title of Lakewood Junior Fire Chief! The Junior Chief is chosen from among all District 5th graders through an essay contest on the Fire Prevention Week topic of the year, which for 2019 was "Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!" Caden's essay was chosen as the best for Lakewood. As is tradition, on October 17 the new Junior Fire Chief was given a special ride to school in a fire engine truck. Caden also read his winning essay at the annual Firefighter Recognition Ceremony October 12. Congrats again, Caden!

LINCOLN PTA is calling all students (Kindergarten through 5th Grade) to participate in this year’s PTA Reflections* competition.

Reflections* is a Nationally acclaimed PTA Student Recognition program to encourage Artistic Creativity. The competition takes place in four different stages: School Level, District Level, State Level, and National Level.

Students can create and submit unlimited number of original works in areas of:

• Dance Choreography • Film Production
• Literature   • Music Composition  • Photography • VisualArts

WORKSHOPS: October 8 and October 22 3:00-4:00

We have hit the next incentive level and FRIDAY, October 18 will be PJ DAY!   Students can wear PJ’s to school and put a ticket in the spirit wear can for a possible prize!

The Lakewood Fire Department will be at Lincoln on October 7 to share with students ways to prevent fires and stay safe in the event of a fire.

Trunk or Treat

Mark your calendars for October 25th for Lincoln’s Trunk or Treat!  This is a fun, family-friendly event allowing students to trick or treat to decorated cars in our parking lot.  Details are still being planned. Join us Saturday, Sept. 28, at 1 p.m. in Kauffman Park for the fourth annual Lincoln Fun Run. The Fun Run is our main school fundraiser for the year as well as a really FUN day!

We are also seeking sponsors for this event (sponsor form follows this article) as well as donations for the raffle baskets. Raffle basket tickets will be on sale at both Open House/Ice Cream Social nights.

Trials for Hope

Lincoln Leaders of Community Service is supporting the nonprofit organization, Trials for Hope which provides personal care items and food to local residents in need.

We have a large suitcase in the front hall to collect trial sizes of personal care items such as lotion, shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrushes, mouthwash, deodorant, cotton swab or towelettes.  Club members will sort and package materials for donation.

We thank the Lakewood Rangers Education Foundation for supporting our Leadership Club!

Special note for 5th grade families:

When our fifth graders get to the end of the school year, those who have not ordered yearbooks want to purchase at that time.  We do not have additional yearbooks printed, so now is the time to make sure your fifth grader has his/hers for autographs and memories.

Lincoln Singers Monsters Game

Lincoln Singers traditionally sing the National Anthem to open one Cleveland Monsters game each year. This year, they will open on Friday, March 6 at 7:00 pm.  All Lincoln families are invited to join the fun.




Thanks to all of the amazing Lincoln Families that support our PTA! This has allowed us to bring COSI on Wheels to our school! Our ecology program takes students on a journey through various habitats including a prairie, wetland, river and forest where they learn how parts of an ecosystem are connected. EXPLORING ECOLOGY supports academic content standards in Life Science.

Halloween Parade

We will be celebrating Halloween with our annual costume parade. We will parade around the outside of the school, stepping off at 2:00 from the Clifton Ave. front steps.  Parents are invited to watch the parade, then the children will return to classrooms for a short party.

We welcome you to watch the parade, but unfortunately cannot host everyone in the classrooms.

Children who are participating will bring school-appropriate costumes in a bag clearly labeled with his/her name. Students also need to leave masks and weapon-like accessories at home as well as anything that is so integral to the costume that they would be heartbroken if lost or left at school.

3rd graders are required by law to pass the Reading Test to be promoted to 4th grade (Third Grade Reading Guarantee).  The fall administration of the test is an opportunity to either (a) pass the reading portion of the English Language Arts test OR (b) give information to the team that will assist in developing an intervention plan.
