5th Grade Battle of the Books

May 17 is our first ever 5th Grade Battle of the Books! About 100 5th graders from all seven of our elementary schools, plus a team from Lakewood Catholic Academy, will square off at Lakewood Public Library in a Jeopardy-like game to see which school knows the most about the nine books they have read this school year. We will be livestreaming the event so if you want to check in on the fun, click at the link below:

Board Approves New Hayes Elementary Principal

FortunaThe Lakewood Board of Education on May 6 approved Eric Fortuna as the next principal of Hayes Elementary School. Fortuna will be replacing Sandy Powers, who is retiring, and begins his new position on August 1, 2019.

Fox 8 to Feature Students Reciting Pledge

Fox 8 Morning News Show will feature students from all our District middle schools and elementary schools during its Pledge of Allegiance recitation at 6:40 am. Hayes will be featured May 10 and 20.

Lakewood PD Youth Basketball Tournament April 6

basketballThe Lakewood Police Dept will its annual Youth Basketball Tournament on Saturday, April 6 at Lakewood High. The tournament consists of fifth graders from all seven elementary schools competing in a single-elimination tournament. The first game begins at 9 am with the championship game at 2 pm. Lakewood Community Services Center representatives will be present to collect cash donations, non-perishable items, and hygiene products for the less fortunate. The Police Department also has joined with the Lakewood Teachers Association for a raffle. The drawing will be held at halftime of the championship game. Winners need not be present. This fun-filled, community day is free of charge.
