Posted On: Monday, January 17, 2011
A team of Harding eighth graders put on an impressive display of knowledge as the team captured first place at the regional Classroom of Champions academic team competition held at St. Edward High School on Jan. 12. The team, comprised of Nate Bonacuse, Jacob Corder and Laert Fejzullari, topped their competitors, St. Christopher and St. Bernadette, with 375 points.
The contest is based on the Academic Challenge format where teams answer questions in three different rounds on topics such as geography, history, literature, pop culture, science and religion.
The team, which also includes alternates Jacob Calfee, Connor Cimino and Jon Solymous and is led by advisers Mary Kay Ryan and Nell Franks, must be among the top 3 highest scoring teams to advance to the Finals in April. More than 20 teams are vying for a spot in the Finals.
