The Harding Battleball Club likes to refer to itself as “Battleball for a Cause” and the club made good on its name on Friday when it presented a check for $750 to local office of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The club meets weekly from 7:45-8:20 am, when anywhere from 30-60 kids show up to throw balls at one another. The students pay 50 cents to play each week. By May, the club had collected $850 and decided to donate $750 to Make-A-Wish, which was represented by development associate Megan Craven at Harding Tuesday morning.
Terri Knapp, club co-adviser with Mark Formanns, has been sending donations from the club to a different charity each year since the club started, which Knapp estimates was 15 years ago.
“They (the students) are getting up early, they’re exercising and they are paying money to do it. It’s kind of a neat thing,” Knapp said. Or what you might also call a “win-win” for everyone.
