Dr. Lisa Wong instructs the Harding Middle School Choir.

The Cleveland Orchestra's At Home in Lakewood neighborhood residency continues to benefit our music department even prior to the residency's main week of activities May 18-24. Harding and Garfield Middle School Choirs were treated to coaching by the Orchestra's assistant choral conductor, Dr. Lisa Wong.

Wong, who is also conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus, ran the vocalists through a series of hand motions and vocal stretching to warm up their bodies and vocal chords. She went over the groups' song list with each ensemble and offered pointers on posture and mouth formation among other elements in order to create the best sound.

The choir coaching sessions are just two of a number of educational activities the Cleveland Orchestra is engaging in with our students as part of the neighborhood residency. For more on the residency, which culminates with a free, public concert on May 24 at the Civic Auditorium, click here.
