Eighth-grader Sydney Wilhelmy will serve as one of the attorneys in the Middle School Mock Trial State Showcase.

After three days of intense questioning and legal arguments in the Harding Middle School Mock Trial playoffs, final 7th and 8th grade teams emerged and are ready to head to Columbus on April 22 for the Ohio Center for Law-Related Education’s Middle School Mock Trial State Showcase competition.

More than 14 judges, attorneys, Lakewood Board of Education members, and administrators presided over the six trials and scored the 65 student participants to determine who would make the final teams.

The case that will be heard is a murder trial based on the novel "The Outsiders." The attorneys for the 7th grade team are Cali Cook, Una Bryson, Mira Getrost and Nola WIlliams-Riseng. The witnesses are Willow Rossen, Charlotte Milenski, Jacob Kavc, Holly Eubanks, Erin McHugh, and Claire Herrington. The 8th grade team attorneys are Jack Wynn, Nikena Norris, Grace Gill and Sydney Wilhelmy. Witnesses are MacKenzie Roe, Emma Carson, Laura Shields, Ivy Rook, Lily Fordu, and Emily McIntire.

Congratulations to the Harding mock trial teams that will compete at the State Judiciary Center under the guidance of teacher Ruth Pangrace, and to all of the students who impressed the prestigious judges with their talents and preparedness.
