Students hold copies of Ji-li Jiang's book, Red Scarf Girl.
Students in Mrs. Sheils’ and Ms. Pollner’s Harding Language Arts classes on Dec. 11 had the treat of Skyping with author Ji-li Jiang. Students had read her memoir Red Scarf Girl – the story of two years of her life during the Cultural Revolution in China in the 1960s.
After reading the book, students watched a DVD with interviews with Ji-li’s family and actual photos and film footage from this time period. Students then had the opportunity to ask the author questions about her life. The experience really brought history to life for these students. The event was made possible by a grant from the Lakewood Alumni Foundation's Margaret Warner Educational Grant Fund.
