Mary Jo Mallchok earned her undergraduate degree in music education and studied viola under Lucien Joel at Cleveland State University. While still in college, Ms. Mallchok led orchestra programs at area parochial schools: St. Bartholomew, St. Bridget, St. Francis, Holy Family, and St. Mary in Berea.  Earning a graduate degree in computers in education, Ms. Mallchok taught computers in education courses at Cleveland State University and led the in-house computer lab. In 1987 Ms. Mallchok initially joined the staff at Harding Middle School as a part time orchestra teacher with five students. After a year and a half she turned 33 students of the Harding orchestras over to the (then) Miss Hankins (her maternity leave substitute) to raise her family. Upon returning to Lakewood City Schools in the fall of 1995, Ms. Mallchok  took over the beginning orchestra program. Now it is truly amazing how popular the orchestra program has become! In 2014 Ms. Mallchok added adapted music to her teaching schedule, working with the Champs students at Horace Mann Elementary and the Bridges students at Garfield Middle School. “Music teachers at LCS have helped thousands of students over decades improve their playing skills and overall success in school. LCS music staff & families can be very proud of their very fine students and all our extraordinary music programs.”

We are developing "muscle memory"! That is why it is so important to keep good posture during your home practice.  Check your feet, spine, elbow, and wrist between every song, even on the rests!  If using the bow, please be especially careful that your thumb is bent, middle man & ring man cover the frog and (violin & viola) pinky is round and sitting on top.  Look at the pictures on page eight of the book!

Please note: Students and or parents attempting tuning has resulted in broken strings.

If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to email me.  Thank you.
