Program Overview
This two-year program is designed to provide skills training in home remodeling and new home construction with an emphasis on carpentry. The junior class will work in the lab at Lakewood High School. In their senior year, students will do real-world construction projects in the West Shore area. Students purchase their own tools, safety glasses and work boots. Senior students meeting the requirements will be eligible for early placement.

Courses: Construction Safety/Crew Leadership, Capentry & Masonry Technical Skills

Construction Trades 2
Open to Grade 12
Prerequisite:  Successful completion of Construction Trades 1
Courses: Structural Systems, Plan Reading, Construction Trades Capstone (optional 2 additional credits)

  • The house as a system
  • Carpentry 2
  • Community based construction projects
  • Focus on the business of contracting, business tools for contractors, and seeking your business advantage.
  • Learn about plan reading and building regulations
  • How to manage your projects for on-time and on-budget results
  • How to use safety to your advantage, find out why risk management is useful and how to set up a safety program.

At completion of the program, successful students will be certified in the core curriculum of NCCER - National Center for Construction and Education Research.

Future Career Opportunities
Multiple Apprenticed Trades

Internship Opportunities (paid or unpaid)
Work experience 2nd semester in the senior year, 15 hours per week in a related occupation.

Apprentice Opportunities may be available.

College Credit Option
Construction Trades students have the opportunity to earn college credit with several area colleges.  To be eligible, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in the Construction Trades Program, maintain an overall GPA per admission criteria of the college (generally 2.0 or 2.5), complete Algebra 2, and complete all other requirements deemed necessary by the particular college's admission office.  Please click on the right tool bar to download the document Construction Trades College Credit Information for a complete overview of credit options.
