Business and Management Technology

BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY  courses focus on the dynamic world of business. Electives allow students to learn more about the variety of technology available, as well as focus on personal finance, computer applications, digital media and computer programming.

 

Personal Finance
1 Semester/.5 Credit
Open to Grades 10-12

Do you want to become a millionaire? Personal Finance teaches the fundamentals of banking, credit, taxes, investing, and insurance. Students participate in an online stock market  simulation. Practical skills include: writing checks, calculating interest, preparing a budget, buying a car, and purchasing a home. This course fulfills the Financial Literacy graduation requirement.

 

Computer Applications
1 Semester/.5 Credit
Open to Grades 9-12

This course is recommended for all students in today’s computer world. It will introduce  students to word processing, spreadsheets applications, desktop publishing, and presentation techniques. The Microsoft Office Suite will be used for these applications.

 

Digital Media
1 Semester/.5 Credit
Open to Grades 9-12

Develop advanced technology skills and become an adept user of Adobe Photoshop and  Illustrator software. Each week students will complete fun and interesting projects in an interactive, project based learning environment including: creating, editing and  restoring photos, illustrations, and artwork. Students will maintain a digital portfolio of their work. 

 

Exploring Technology
1 Semester/.5 Credit
Open to Grades 9-12

All future jobs require an understanding of technology. In this course, students develop an  understanding of technology through hands-on experiences while enriching research and analytical skills. Topics include: hardware, software, networking, digital citizenship, and cyber security. You will learn which of these areas might interest you for future course selections and college and career choices.

 

Introduction to Computer Programming
1 Semester/.5 Credit
Open to Grades 9-12
Suggested: Algebra 1, Exploring Technology, Digital Media, Computer Applications

Learn the basics of programming and web development in a course designed for beginning coders. Students create a web page, write code, and design games/ animations while exploring  computing topics. Focus is on creativity, collaboration, problem solving, and project based learning in a hands-on lab environment. Programming is a recognized 21st century skill!
