Sen. Antonio Visits for Story TIme Antonio

Roosevelt 2nd graders enjoyed a special story time on May 14 when State Senator Nickie Antonio paid a visit. Sen. Antonio read "Sofia Valdez Future Prez," which tells the story of a young girl identifying a problem in the community and working with her government to make it better. The book was then gifted to the school library. The students loved the visit and peppered the senator with plenty of questions afterward! Thank you, Sen. Antonio!

Information for Returning to Roosevelt
District Shares Second Quarter Learning Options

Last week, we notified families that starting October 19th the District will be returning to partial or full in-person instruction, depending on whether the county alert status is at Level 1 (Yellow) or Level 2 (Orange). We know that there may be concern regarding the safety of this return so we wanted to share the extensive safety protocols we have developed in line with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, Ohio Department of Health and the Cuyahoga County Board of Health that can be viewed on our COVID-19 Building Safety Protocols page

Free Meals Available for First Quarter lunch

Grab-n-go breakfast and lunch will be offered every weekday beginning Sept. 8 at LHS, both middle schools and all elementary schools for any enrolled Lakewood City Schools student. Supplies 4 Success Kicks Off supplies

suppliesAs we near the final days of this unusual summer, Lakewood students and their families are preparing to begin a new school year. Since 2011, “Supplies 4 Success” has been a big part of that process. Many Lakewood businesses have collected supplies generously donated by Lakewood families for distribution to neighbors in need. Of course, the challenge of the pandemic means a different plan for Supplies 4 Success this year. The goal is to provide the same support to Lakewood students while protecting the health and safety of our business community and volunteers. Here’s how it will work this year:

Remote Opening to the 2020-2021 School Year

Yesterday, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH) issued a recommendation that all schools within its health jurisdiction begin the 2020-21 school year remotely “due to the elevated health risk posed to students, staff and family members” and that schools “discontinue extracurriculars such as sports, band, theater, choir and other activities during the remote learning period.” Read the full CCBH press release here.

Therefore, following the recommendation of the Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH), the Lakewood City School District plans to begin the 2020-21 school year operating remotely. If conditions change in Cuyahoga County prior to the start of the school year and the CCBH modifies their recommendation, we will adjust accordingly.

Also per the CCBH recommendation, all athletic and other extra-curricular activities will be suspended immediately until further notice.

Remote Learning: Physical Education & Music

Mr. Byrne's weekly PE assignments are now located on his teacher website linked here.

Roosevelt Unveils New House System

House of AmistadIf it worked for Hogwarts, why not Roosevelt Elementary? Last week after much planning by the Roosevelt staff, a new shool house system was unveiled to the Roosevelt community with exciting sessions of virtual wheel spinning where students found out which house they will call home and a kickoff all-school assembly to reveal staff house assignments and  house expectations.

Roosevelt Unveils New Five House System!

We are thrilled to bring the house system, adapted after the well-known Ron Clark Academy, to Roosevelt. The house system promotes a sense of healthy competition and spirit, and it teaches students how to contribute their efforts toward a group.
