The Lakewood High swimming and diving team will be sending 11 athletes to Districts following the success of the team at the Division 1 Sectional meet on Saturday. Two divers and two swimmers qualified individually, and seven other swimmers qualified as members of the four relays that qualified to compete on February 15 & 16 at Bowling Green State University.
Sophomore Sistina Simcox led the Rangers with a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (56.04) and a ninth place in the 200-yard-freestyle (2:03.63), both with personal record times. Sophomore Ethel Woodford will join her as the other swimmer to qualify in an individual event as Ethel finished 18th in the 100-yard-butterfly with a career best time of 1:05.60. Both the boys’ and girls’ 200- and 400-yard-freestyle relays qualified as well. Relay team members in addition to Ethel and Sistina are: seniors Marisa Campbell, Wilson Reynolds, and Nina Zanghi; juniors Sophia Miranda, Conor Peppard-Kramer, and Parker Polen; and sophomore Mateo Bussert. Senior diver Joe Toole (9th place at Sectionals) and junior Tru Smith (18th place) will also compete at Districts.
