HAYES, Lincoln rally for Two Schools One Book Project

The excitement and enthusiasm in the Garfield gym Friday was enough to think the 800 students and staff from Hayes and Lincoln Elementaries gathered there were taking part in a huge pep rally for some giant sporting event. It had all the elements: the Rangerman, Garfield cheerleaders and band, even Browns mascot Chompers. But the event was rather a rally for reading as the two schools celebrated the kickoff of their Two Schools One Book program.

PTA Recognition

PTA Recognition Evening, May 6

There were many awards for Lincoln at the Recognition evening-here’s the good news:

  • Kira Brown (5th grader):  statewide honorable mention for Reflections film entry
  • PTA membership:  statewide “President’s Silver Membership Award". This was earned for the greatest percentage increase in membership.  PTA  membership increased from 78 members last year to 234 members this year!
  • Jeff Gardner (dad of Evan, 2nd grader):  “Good Guy Award”
  • Kelly Jablonowski: “PTA Volunteer Award” presented for the top 5 members with greatest number of hours volunteered throughout the year
  • Kelly Jablonowski:  presented the “2014-2015 President’s Cup”. This was awarded for her tireless efforts in gathering other members around the PTA cause for Lincoln School.

We are grateful for the strong community support for our school!

Middle School Reading

Middle School Summer Read: Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie

This summer all middle school students will be reading this hilarious yet thoughtful book by Jordan Sonnenblick.  All students will then complete the summer assignment online found on the district’s website or either middle schools’ website.  After students come back in the fall, author Jordan Sonnenblick will visit both Harding and Garfield! We are partnering with Lakewood Public Library and they are available to answer questions during the summer and of course loan the book to you.  Enjoy reading Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick! Your teachers (and Jordan Sonnenblick!) will see you in the fall with your completed assignment.  More information will be posted in June on the district’s website: www.lakewoodcityschools.org.
