Lakewood elementary students are now part of a book club of 2,500 people as each of the District’s seven elementary schools kicked off the start of the 7 Schools 1 Book project! Staff at each of the schools worked hard to make the kickoff an “event” for the students, bringing characters from the book, “Kenny and the Dragon,” to life. The students even had a video visit from author Tony DiTerlizzi to help get the students pumped up and excited about reading the same book together.
The 7 Schools 1 Book project aims to make reading a family affair. Students will read the book aloud with their families and staff will read it as well. The idea is to create a shared experience where students can chat about the book at school and at home. The schools will each have a celebration on May 25 when everyone has completed the book.
Donations from, Lakewood Kiwanis, First Federal Lakewood and a grant from the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation made it possible to purchase the 2,500 books for all the students and create exciting kickoff assemblies.
Teachers will be contributing to a districtwide blog during the two weeks of the project. You can check and see what all the activities are that are happening at the following link: https://7schools1booklkwd.blogspot.com/
