Lakewood City School District:
Providing Quality Education
for the 21st Century

The Lakewood City School District is an award-winning public school district with excellence in academics, the arts, sports and community service, all in a city named among "Best Hometowns in Ohio" by Ohio magazine, "The Best Place to Raise Kids" in Ohio by BusinessWeek.com and one of the country's "10 Most Exciting Small Cities" by Business Insider. Students walk to neighborhood schools and enjoy a wide variety of programming to meet the educational needs of every student that walks through our doors. While academic achievement is a top priority, the district also looks to create opportunity-rich environments that allow our students to explore beyond the classroom walls. Partnerships with local colleges and universities, a Digital Academy, West Shore Career-Technical District, and our Community Recreation and Education Department provide many educational options for students and families.

This is an exciting time for the 5,800 student district as we embark on the third and final phase of our Facilities Master Plan. To date, four new elementary schools and two new middle schools have been built, and the western half of Lakewood High School has been totally renovated. We are now a district of seven K-5 elementary schools, two middle schools (6-8 grades), one high school and one alternative school. With the passage of a bond issue in November 2013, the district can now proceed with rebuilding the final three elementary schools and finishing the eastern half of the high school. When it is al complete, Lakewood Schools will have among the best school facilities and the best technological support for teaching and learning that can be found in our area.
