The Superintendent of Schools is employed by the Board of Education to serve as the Chief Executive Officer for the Lakewood City School District. As such, the Superintendent is responsible for the operations of all schools and departments, with the exception of the Treasurer’s Office, within the school district. The Superintendent’s Office also includes the Public Relations Department of the school district.

Superintendent Jeffrey W. Patterson served as assistant superintendent for the district for five years before becoming superintendent on Aug. 1, 2011. Mr. Patterson was superintendent for the Orrville City School District prior to coming to Lakewood. Throughout his career, Mr. Patterson has held positions as a teacher, dean of students, middle school principal besides his jobs as assistant superintendent and superintendent. Mr. Patterson earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Akron. He and his wife, Nancy, reside in Lakewood.
