Growth Mindset
The new AP African American Studies course at Lakewood High School is part of a pilot program in which LHS is one of only 60 schools across the nation participating. Teacher Austin Sparks and his students are stretching their minds and diving deep into a historical perspective that most students have not before learned at such a comprehensive level. The interest in this new course has been high from our students and the local and national media. Collaboration
A partnership with First Ring First Fellowship (FRFF) program and the Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District led Lakewood High science teachers Rita Chahda and Ann Pesta and their AP Environmental Science and biology students to remove a large amount of the invasive vegetation recently from a storm basin on the high school grounds. Working together with the county, the students learned about the Great Lakes watershed and how to protect it.
