ACT/SAT Sites

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT. All sophomores at LHS are required to take the test. Juniors who think they may qualify for recognition through the National Merit Scholarship Corp. programs are also encouraged to take the test.

The test is given each October.

The ACT is a college readiness assessment test consisting of four subject areas: English, Reading, Math and Science. Students receive scores in all four areas in addition to a composite score. Students usually take the ACT their junior year or Fall of senior year. Testing dates are throughout the school year. Dates can be found in the right-hand column of this page. The SAT is designed to test a student's academic readiness for college. It tests students' knowledge in three areas: Reading, Writing and Math. Students usually take the SAT junior year or Fall of senior year. Testing dates are throughout the school year. Dates can be found in the right-hand column of this page. For more info on the SAT, click here.

SUBJECT TESTS

Some of the highly selective colleges require or strongly recommend that students take several SAT Subject Tests as well as the SAT Reasoning Test. Students who plan to apply to these colleges should check specific college catalogs for admission requirements. Keep in mind that students may register for either the SAT Reasoning Test or up to three SAT Subject Tests on one test date. The SAT Subject Tests are listed and explained in the SAT Registration Bulletin available in the School Counseling Office and online here. It is recommended that students take these subject tests at the end of a particular course. For example, students who are currently enrolled in AP Chemistry may want to take the Chemistry SAT Subject Test at the end of this school year.
